Done well, injectables are subtle. Done badly, they're memorable for the wrong reasons. Most of the difference is who does them.

Neurotoxins (Botox and similar)

They soften expression lines for roughly three to four months. Pricing is usually per unit; ask how many units before you start.

Fillers

Hyaluronic acid gels add volume to lips, cheeks or lines. Results can last months to a year or more. A rare but serious risk is a filler blocking a blood vessel, which is why your injector must be medically trained and ready to dissolve it immediately.

Choosing an injector

  • A board-certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon, or a nurse or physician assistant working under one.
  • A consultation without pressure, and prices quoted up front.
  • Before-and-after photos of their own patients that look like people, not filters.

Red flags

Deep discounts, "limited time" offers, parties, and anyone who won't tell you which product they're using.

The best work goes unnoticed. Including the bill.
