Cycle-syncing is all over social media. The research is calmer.

Performance across the cycle

A large review found that, on average, any differences in performance across the menstrual cycle are small and inconsistent. How you feel matters more than any rulebook: train hard when you feel good, and ease off on the days you don't.

Signs to take seriously

Missing periods while training hard can be a sign of not eating enough for your training (low energy availability), which affects bone and hormone health. See a doctor.

PCOS

Polycystic ovary syndrome is common. Exercise, including strength training, is part of the evidence-based management, along with care from a clinician.

Contraception

It can change how you feel, but it doesn't stop you training well. Choose it with a clinician for your reasons, not for a training trend.
