Exercise has good evidence for lifting mood and easing anxiety, and many people find training is the steadiest part of their week. But it isn't a cure, and when it becomes the only coping tool, it can turn compulsive.

What helps

  • Moving most days, gently counts.
  • Sleep before almost anything else.
  • People: classes, clubs, a training partner.

When to get help

If low mood or anxiety lasts more than a couple of weeks, affects work or relationships, or comes with thoughts of self-harm, talk to a doctor or therapist. If you're in crisis, call or text 988.

When training becomes the problem

Panic when you miss a session, training through injury, or feeling worthless without it are signs it's time to talk to someone.
