Moderate evidence

What the evidence says

Can reduce soreness after hard exercise. Plunging straight after strength training may blunt some muscle-building adaptations, so keep it away from lifting days if muscle is the goal.

Good for
Soreness after hard sessions, a bracing start to the day.
Not for
Heart conditions, Raynaud's, pregnancy, or uncontrolled blood pressure without a doctor's advice.
Risks
Cold shock and gasping: enter slowly, never alone, never after alcohol.
Typical cost
$25–$60 a sessionAn estimate of typical prices in our cities, still being checked. Ask for the full price before you book.

Questions to ask
