A run club is a social life with a warm-up. Choose it like one.
Know your vibe
- The competitive club: track sessions, race calendars, people who say "splits" unironically.
- The social club: an easy loop and a long brunch. Pace is a suggestion.
- The queer club: often the warmest welcome in the city, with a long history in most of our cities.
- The sober club: a Friday-night alternative that ends with coffee, not cocktails.
Before you go
- Check the published pace groups. Most clubs have a no-drop policy: nobody gets left behind.
- Go twice before deciding. The first run is always awkward.
- Introduce yourself to whoever's organizing. They'll make sure you have someone to run with.
The best training partner is the one who notices when you don't show up.
